Chiclayo
Chiclayo, the regional capital of Lambayeque, means "city of friendship". Founded by Jesuit missionaries, it is a major crossroads on the northern coast: passage to the Amazon jungle at Bagua, to the Andes towards Cajamarca and north towards Ecuador, it is an essential step in a journey to the Peruvian north. The generosity and openness of its inhabitants is matched only by the richness of the ancient treasures it contains: the Royal Tombs Museum of Sipan, a few dozen kilometres south of the city; the pyramids of Tucume (more than 26!), an immense archaeological complex; the Ferreñafe Museum, which retraces in a very didactic, clear and playful way the evolution of the pre-Incan civilizations of the region... And many other surprises that the Lambayeque region has in store for you.
